College Admissions Counseling

Despite what we have all been led to believe, it is not impossible to get into a “good” college because there are hundreds of good colleges for all kinds of students. While a small percentage of schools have become brutally selective, they are not the norm and they are not the only colleges worth considering, even for top students. So, please, take a deep breath, there is a place (likely multiple places) that will be a good fit for each student and we will guide them there, always keeping in mind that each student’s emotional well-being is just as important as academic achievement and the name of the school placed on the rear windshield of your car.

Just As Important - Finances

The exploding cost of college over the past two decades is showing no sign of slowing down.  Getting into and attending a good college is one thing, but nobody wants it to create crushing debt as a parting gift. Given the hundreds of good options, our college counseling extends to working with students and their families to push aside preconceived notions that often get in the way of good financial decision-making and result in missed opportunities.

About Branding and Marketing

Highly selective colleges and universities have become even more selective over the past few years. An applicant, therefore, must do one simple thing — demonstrate why an admissions committee should admit them over 100 or more equally qualified applicants. An applicant literally must market themselves to admissions committees in order to gain an advantage. We know what the colleges are looking for and the creation of a personal brand is part of our process.

More than that, as part of effective preparation and planning, you will learn:

•  The truth about college admissions how things have changed over the years

•   Why college is a “buyer’s market” even with the decline in acceptance rates at many schools

•   How six-figure earning families qualify for aid and discounts even if a student is not at the very top of the class

•   The nuts and bolts of how colleges determine eligibility for financial aid

•   The reasons why private colleges with a high sticker price may end up being the better financial option than “inexpensive” state colleges and universities

•   Why looking only at “elite” colleges and universities may not be the wisest strategy, even for top students

•   Why taking a strategic approach and casting a wider, more creative net yields the best results, both financially and in the college selection process

Our innovative, targeted and individualized approach to college planning yields results. We look forward to working with you.
